The optical add-drop multiplexer(OADM) based on fiber grating has a lot of advantages such as its simple structure, the low insertion loss and so on. On one hand,it improves the flexibility of signal’s upload and download.On the other hand, it also provides a guarantee for the controllability of the entire network, it plays an important role in optical fiber communications and other fields. In this paper, uniform fiber Bragg grating, tunable fiber grating and the sampled fiber grating’s principles and performance have been studied. Besides, three new structures of OADM based on optical fiber grating are designed and analysed which based on their principles and simulations.Furthermore, this paper proposes three network structures applied the fiber grating based OADM,and analyzing them by OptiSystem. The main completed works are as follows:1. Firstly, we analyze the development of fiber gratings and OADM, introduce how they work and to classify, and then we describe the applications and developments of the fiber grating and OADM in the network based on the situation of the WDM and all-optical network’s development.Styduing the theory of uniform fiber Bragg grating and sampled fiber grating by coupled-mode theory and transfer matrix method, analyzing the two fiber gratings’ influencing factors of reflection and transmission spectra by using Matlab simulation and the control variable method.2. We design three new structures of OADM based on fiber Bragg gratings: Dual-channel wavelength switching OADM; Adjustable three-wavelength OADM; and Adjustable multi-wavelength of dual-channel switching OADM. These three new OADMs could enable the flexible upload and download capabilities of multi-channel and multi-wavelength signal. Then we analyze the performance and verify the feasibility of these three new structures by spectrum analysis diagram of each port simulated by Optisystem.3. We propose three network structures applied the fiber grating based OADM: Firstly, applying the single fiber grating in the 10Gbit/s WDM network(one-stage network);Secondly, applying the combined OADM based on fiber gratings in the 10Gbit/s WDM network(one-stage network);Thirdly, using the OADM based on tunable fiber grating in the two-stage hybrid networks(a two-stage 10 G EPON network structure). And we analyze the three networking modes’ simulations of Optisystem to verify the feasibility and compatibility of OADM-based network structure by observing the signal spectrum of each node and BER analysis of the receiver. The simulation shows that the eye pattern’s shape is good, and the error rate is very small, proving the good networking compatibility with the optical fiber grating based OADM and the OADM can be well applied in next-generation optical networks with a huge market prospect.
