With its excellent performance, Li-ion battery has become a good power source for new generation Pure Electric Vehicles (PEV).The heat release of chemical reaction caused by Li-ion battery's carbon anode,cathode active material,electrolyte may lead to Li-ion battery temperature rise in normal use or abuse. Li-ion batteries also face with the over-charging, over-discharging,high and low temperature situation, which may lead to fire, explosion and other security risks,so its safe use is high requirement.A smoke alarm monitoring system for the safe use of Li-ion battery which was applied in Olympic Games PEV charging station is presented in this paper. The system can achieve the centralized monitoring of the battery and the early accident alarm and avoid the expansion of accident. The system is mainly composed of the smoke sensor, CAN communication adapter board and monitoring PC interface. This paper first discusses the design of smoke sensor with strong anti-interference ability and the sensor is used in the high-voltage high-current Li-ion battery occasion for the first time. Then, CAN communication adapter board is proposed which can achieve the conversion fuction from 360 sensor signals to CAN communication signals,this facilitates centralized monitoring and the promote in the field of PEV. In the end, this paper introduced the PC interface which is convenient to view and operate which was programmed with Visual C++6.0.At present, the system has been in use at the Olympic Games PEV charging station and its operation has been stable and reliable. All base a good foundation for the next phase of application and promotion.
