As the WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) is playing an increasingly important role in people's lives, the research on chemistry physics and machining performance of it is carried out extensively. At the same time, image process and automation technologies are being penetrated into various industrial fields constantly. This research takes abrasion area of the handle milling cutter's wedge angle as the object, machined WPC by CNC (Computerized Numerical Control),calculated the abrasion area by image process and mathematical modeling. There were little reports on tool wear testing at home and abroad until now. The main content and conclusion of this paper are as following:⑴Measuring and sampling the geometry of the new tool with the tool microscope, and fitting the straight lines with the least square method, so the size of tool's wedge angle can be obtained accurately.⑵Machining WPC with CNC, collecting the images about wedge angles and back angles with the tool microscope.⑶After carried out the images by using the technology of sub-pixel process, which became more précis, they wouldn't be distorted when detecting the outlines. Then detected the outline of them by the modified new alg??hm, the characters of abrasion zone can be picked up exactly. At last, transformed the points on the outline of abrasion zone into coordinate through CF (CFContour_following) function, which included all the information in the zone.⑷Fitting the straight lines and curves with the points in the coordinate, eliciting the function of the lines and curves and then working out the area of abrasion with the theory of definite integral.
