In this paper, the fundamental theory of electromagnetic (optical) wave scattering from the random rough surfaces is introduced, different methods of optical wave scattering from the rough surfaces including the Kirchhoff Approximation Method and the Small Perturbation Method are discussed. The optical wave scattering from random rough surface is studied using the Kirchhoff Approximation and the Small Perturbation Method mainly, the formulae of the optical scattering coefficient for different polarization is presented with considering the autocorrelation function and the power spectral density of the Gaussian rough surface and the Exponential rough surface. The varying curves of scattering coefficient with the scattering angle, the azimuth angle of scattering and the incident wave length are abtained by numerical calculation in the case of monostatic scattering and bistaticscattering. The influence of the root mean square and correlation length of rough surface, the dielectric permittivity of dielectric medium and the wave length of incident wave are discussed. The basic characteristic and characteristic varying with the incident wave length of optical wave scattering codfficient from the Gaussian rough surface and the Exponential distribution rough surface are obtainted .The results show that the influence of the rootmean square and correlation length of rough surface, the dielectric permittivity of dielectric medium and the length of incident wave on scattering coefficient is comparative complx.
