With the development of globalization, international communication has become moreand more important. And listening to understand others is obviously a prerequisite. China'sMinistry of Education has attached great importance to improving college students'English listening ability, which is reflected in the increased weighing of listening items invarious English exams. However, due to the enlarged college enrollment in recent years,college English listening teaching has to be carried out in large classes, and students'demand for personalized and individualized learning thus cannot be met.The rapid development of technology, especially the extensive use of the internet, hascreated a wonderful possibility to solve the above-mentioned problem. Internet-basedforeign language teaching has recently become a new mode of teaching. However, theauthor of this thesis is aware of some problems existing in the listening teaching websites,among which lack of theoretical support is a major reason for those poorly-designedlistening teaching websites. Therefore, this thesis is intended to focus its attention on theanalysis of the currently available listening teaching websites and on the designing of amore effective one.This thesis is made up of five chapters. Chapter one, as an introduction, explains theresearch background, research questions, hypothesis, significance and methodology. In thesecond chapter, on the basis of a literature review, the author summarizes the features ofEnglish listening teaching and identifies the strengths of web-based English listeningteaching. Chapter three is an analysis of the currently available English listening teachingwebsites with a view to identifying their problems. Chapter 4 is devoted to the designing ofa more effective website. In the concluding section, the author summarizes the thesis,points out its limitations and makes suggestions for future study.The research methodology adopted in this research includes literature studies, contentanalysis, questionnaire, and interview.
