The modern Shanghai popular literary journal was born against the background of prosperous economy, commerce and culture of Shanghai. It was also the product of a special transition period of history. The 1940s was an age during which there took place political, economic and cultural transformations. In this decade, the popular literary journal had changed from its content to form, of which the most significant change is the replacement of the authors. These journals emerged a number of young authors of popular literature who had received new education and born in the soil of New Literature. Based on the everyday life of plebeians, the young authors established a novel domain in the civic daily life. From the viewpoint of the commoner, these popular literary journals whose authors were young people recognized the living state of the plebeian' s practical daily life. Especially, by representing the value system and personalities of commoners, journals displayed urban young people' s characteristics.Study on two popular literary journals of Chun qiu and Xing fu, the thesis planed to explore the problem how the literature works by these young authors to affect the development of the popular literature in 1940s, in order to display the unique charm of the popular literature in 1940s.
