With the development of digitalization and network, the traditional access control system is difficult to meet the reliability and network control requirements because of the identification methods, speed and performance. The human physiology characteristic's status recognition is widely used based on the progress of the recognition technology. At present, looking from the practical angle, the fingerprint recognition technology must be safer than other physiology character recognition, this is because person's fingerprint is unique, invariable as well as the next to the skin. The traditional entrance guard controller often used the Single-Chip Microcomputer and the serial port for transmitting data to the position machine. Some entrance guard controllers compose by the RS485 network generally, it makes it's no easy to realize the network and the remote control because of the communication link's special-purpose, but networking entrance guard system based on the TCP/IP is easy to realize the remote control and the distributional management.Based on Ethernet technology and fingerprint recognition, a new kind of intelligent access controller is designed in this paper. In the Linux operating system and ARM9, the paper realized fingerprint image acquisition based on FPS200 sensor, and realized the network access controller based on the TCP / IP protocol with the Ethernet chip AX88796.Firstly, the paper analyzed the development of the access control system and it's background and significance, and then introduced the overall structure of the system, listied the important function modules of the hardware resources and drivers. According to the system's hardware resources, the paper builded the embedded Linux software platform and transplanted the related module's drivers.Thirdly, the paper studied the fingerprint recognition algorithm which mainly includes the fingerprint image pretreatment and the feature extraction and matches. In this paper, it's focued on analysis of fingerprint image segmentation algorithm, using of the gray gradient and the gray variance combination, and then seting up a suitable local threshold for segmentation. At last, the paper elaborated the access control system's software design which is focus on collecting Video4Linux image, fingerprint image acquisition, GoAhead Web Server's applications and the communication between the access control system controller, and the client PC based on TCP / IP protocol.The part of System testing includes the test environment, methods and contents. Test results show that the design of this issue fingerprint-based access control system in the network is stable, reliable and real-time application which reached a satisfactory outcome. At the end of the paper, it proposed some questions which meeted in the work, and made a simple summary about some new research tendency, which comes to nearly several years, and also pointed out the fingerprint recognition network entrance guard system's future direction.
