Plant,as an important part of the nature,is closely related to our life.Along with the research and development of fractal,the research of visual plant has become a hot topic in computer graphic.Visual plants based on L-system are used commonly.It has a widely application in landscape design,education, entertainment,business and so on.In the dissertation,the basic principle of the L-System and the importance of virtual plant modeling are introduced,and the current development states of the visual plant are expatiated.Definite L-system,stochastic L-system,parametric L-system,differential L-system and context L-system are well studied in chapter 2. Based on these previous work and theory,we do a lot of research on the visual plant.The main contributions of this dissertation are as follows:Firstly,we do some geometric modeling of the plant organs such as tree branch,leaves.This algorithm solves the gap problems existed in generic branch algorithm.Moreover,the branch algorithm doesn't increase the cost time,and then using the L-System we simulate the common leaves similarly.Next,based on existing theory and algorithms,we compare the common algorithms based on the L-System and propose an improved algorithm of modeling 3D trees,and then we construct more realistic 3D trees.Further more,these trees are applied to render large-scale natural scenes and achieved fairly well experimental effect.
