Recent years, attempts are being made to realize automatic operation utilizing computers in such fields as industrial plant and transportation system. Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system is one important part of the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system. It can operate the train replacing the driver to ensure the running efficient and energy saving of the train, while the most important function of ATO system is speed adjustment. In this paper speed adjustment of ATO system is studied, and the control algorithm and its simulation based on Fuzzy-PID Soft-Switch are also proposed. Main works are as follows:Firstly the definition of ATO system is introduced, and also the existing control algorithms of ATO systems, which concern many functions during the train operation, such as efficiency, punctuality, energy economizing, stop precision, comfort and so on.Secondly, the basic structure and function of ATO systems have been introduced in detail. Taking the speed control system of separately excited traction motor as an example, the mathematical model of ATO control system based on experimental data is studied.Thirdly, several kinds of control algorithms of ATO system are analyzed, such as PID control and Fuzzy control. The paper illustrates the PID controller is more precise than fuzzy controller, while fuzzy controller is more quickly in response and better robustness through the simulation.Fourthly, control algorithms of ATO systems based on Fuzzy-PID switching control is studied. Since the switching control based on threshold value is easily disturbed and uncomfortable, Fuzzy-PID Soft-Switch has been adopted, which makes use of fuzzy rules to complete switching. Through simulation and analysis it is proved that the Soft-Switch algorithm is better than other control algorithms on punctuality, rapidity and comfort. Then P-Fuzzy-PID based on Soft-Switch control algorithm is introduced into multi-models switching control system.Finally, the ATO system based on Fuzzy-PID Soft-Switch control algorithm is improved through changing the shape of membership function. Self-adjusting of factors is designed to enhance its adaptive capacity. Then, fuzzy reasoning is used to adjust the parameters of PID control algorithm. Bilinear interpolation algorithm is developed into fuzzy reasoning, which makes the fuzzy rules refined infinitely and the fibrillation eliminated.
