The research work conducted for a "Bit-Balls" exhibition in Guangdong Science Center is depicted in this paper. In this exhibition, the conception of resolution in digital image is illustrated by using spheroid models as substitutes of pixel points which constitute the picture. Based on the pictures obtained from viewers, the machine sets the balls of different sizes to rebuild the pictures. The design of hardware in "Bit-Balls" exhibition, which consist of three modules-the data transmission, the drive controlling and the distinguishment for the color of the balls, is described particularly in this paper. The configuration of the machine and the software for image disposal is also introduced.Hardware system adopts structure of principal and subordinate. The core controlling of hardware system is achieved by four pieces of MCU-one principal MCU and three subordinate MCUs whose functions are differ from each others. The data transmission module collects the information from PC as the gist of setting balls. It adopt the technology of UART multicast communication and includes the transmission between PC and MCU and the transmission between MCUs. The technology of UART multicast communication is settled by a channel controlling between those MCUs. Drive controlling module is in charge with controlling signals for MCUs and amplification of these signals' voltage and current to make sure of the effect of electromagnetism switch. Some protections are added into the amplification circuit. The use of Transient Voltage Suppresser and Polyer Positive Temperature Coefficient can stop the electromagnetism switch from damnification. The distinguishment for the color of the balls can be accomplished utilizing the different infrared reflectivity for the different colors. It can distinguish the existence of the balls and their colors.A big melioration is obtained comparing the final scheme with the initial after a lot of debugging. The process is presented in the last part of this paper. The difficulties and their resolving schemes are revealed. The conditions and the gist are attainable.
