Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has been appeared for a long time, which gains its popularity in a broad region such as automated identification and supply chain applications, identification, entrance guard, electronic tickets, traffic etc. in recent years. While the development inspiring, the security problem has emerged at the same time, which brings some potential threat to the users.For the strict limitation of low-cost requirement, the cipher arithmetic existed can't be used in the RFID system. In this paper, we develop a new security solution of authentication based on the TDES arithmetic. Current research on the cipher arithmetic is mainly about the speed of the circuit at the cost of some areas. But in this system, area is the preferential factor. This paper has a study of the TDES arithmetic architecture, and designs the circuit under the guiding ideology of module reuse and serial data transfer. As a result, the new architecture needs only more than 1400 gates for implementation which meet with the requirement of RFID system. Furthermore, we complete the digital circuit design for RFID tag combined with the mutual authentication. This method can meet the security require such as confidentiality, integrity, authentication and availability, and it is a practical solution for the RFID system.
