The explosive growth in wireless communications has driven the research and development of wireless transceivers. VCO(Voltage Controller Oscillator), as the key module in the PLL(Phase Locked Loop),frequency synthesize and clock recover etc circuits, is the part of wireless transceivers and plays a decision effect for the whole system in specification, size, weigh and cost. So, the VCO design is a difficulty in RF (Radio Frequency) circuit development and integration. With the rapid advancement of process and technology, the on-chip implementation of VCO has become easy. On-chip VCO is a key factor in lowering the cost and size of transceivers. It's an important subject in the area of RFIC to fulfill the mow phase noise and high output power requirements with high frequency. The theory and practice of integrated LC VCO are studied in this thesis. With a view to domestic and oversea references that are related, a VCO is designed under the conditions of low phase noise, high output power and large tuning range. Major contents and results of study are abstracted as following, S-Band MMIC VCO with output power > 7dBm is realized. The ADS simulation for choice of active devices, varactor, oscillator topology configuration, S parameter, transient and HB simulations etc and the layout is also be shown. Also the design will be available in WCS and ISM frequencies.
