TD-SCDMA (Time Division - Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access), proposed by Chinese government and approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as one of the three principal 3G mobile telecommunications standards, is the first 3rd generation telecommunication standard with its research and development mainly led by Chinese industries as well as its intellectual property rights in Chinese enterprises. TD-SCDMA network is mostly composed of digital service, most of which occur indoors, therefore, it is essential to review the indoor coverage of TD-SCDMA.This article firstly introduces and compares all kinds of 3G network formats. Then it presents the characteristic, predominance and development opportunity of TD-SCDMA technology, as well as the circumstance and essentiality of TD-SCDMA indoor coverage. It also lists some problems of indoor coverage that need to be solved.This article establishes the whole procedure of TD-SCDMA indoor coverage planning in accordance with actual conditions and advances the principle and goal of the whole planning. Then, it puts forward the thinking of the planning, considering the capacity and sort of signal source as well as the manner, power setup, frequency combination of distribution system and so on. It also raises some factors that need to be considered in planning the TD-SCDMA indoor coverage of some special places such as subways and stadiums. Lastly, facing the fact that 2G operators currently coexist with 3G operators in China, the article discusses the possibility to co-build TD-SCDMA with 2G system, analyzes the minimum separation range to restrain lost inhibition, obstruction and interoperability interference when putting TD-SCDMA into one distribution system with other formats, and proposes the idea of designing a multi-system combiner.Finally, this article integrates theory with project practice and analyzes the data of TD-SCDMA indoor coverage.
