First we discuss the DRM architecture in the traditional environment including the DRM object, basic framework and rights expression language. Then we detail the basic parts of DRM framework in P2P networks. Secondly, we introduce the anounymous authentication protocol in P2P application environment. In analogy to PKI mechanism in traditional environment, identity based anounymous authentication protocol is more suitable in P2P networks. In the next section, we discuss the content and rights distribution mechanisms in P2P networks, and then put forward 2-layer distribution model for DRM content and rights distribution in P2P networks. Thus in this model, content distribution and rights distribution is totally separated. Next, we discuss the traditional central and distributed rights issue mechanisms. At last we discuss the problem of malicious devices communicating with compliant devices in the context of rights transfer in P2P networks. Thus, after discussing the problems within the existing mechanisms we summarize three requirements that should be satisfied in the context of rights transfer. According to these requirements, we propose an e-cash based rights transfer mechanism in P2P networks. In analogy to others, e-cash based mechanism is more flexible and secure. Security issues of the mechanism are also raised and discussed.
