Reading is an important means for the human beings of understanding and rebuilding the world and of continuing civilization. As a social practice in which people make sense of the symbols, reading is changing constantly with the changing language carrier and reading vector. The explosive growth of information amount and the richness in media communication channels makes people get to select superficial reading, and "content with superficial understanding, the pursuit of happiness" is increasingly becoming the trend of the modern time.ChapterⅠclarifies the evolution history of human' s reading method in details, which is a history of technique, and a history of communication technologies. This article sets forth to this issue diachronically, from original characters sign reading to the traditional paper-based media reading, then to modern mass-media reading. Media technology changing all the way gets people of each epoch deeply impressed.ChapterⅡfocuses on the background and causes of this superficial reading appearance. As for causes, I focus on the effects: post-modernism and consumerism having on superficial reading.ChapterⅢand ChapterⅣanalyses the characterization of media and audience in the superficial reading. I discuss it in two clues, namely, the "commodity" characterization of media content as well as the "consumer" characterization of the audience. With the rapid development of science and technology, commercialization has entered every corner of society, and the promotion of culture industries created two time favorites, that is, "commodity", "consumers. " "Shallow published" in publishing industry, "Carnival" on television, "mockery" on Internet, the media, the warming and expansion of "Pan-entertainment" phenomenon on media, reflect the lack of cultural originality and become the highlights of the lack of art creativity shown as lagging in aesthetic perception. Under the wave of cultural industries, people choose "superficial reading ", "Visualization reading, " "entertainment reading, " "utilitarian reading. " Readers' a little desire can have been hidden a long time, but once aroused by media, it will infinitely expand, ever grow, eventually create a culture and finally evolve into a way of life.As for research methods, this article has mainly taken the combination with comparative analysis and historical analysis.
