Forest environment change is an irreversible process,if the management decision is made by forest manager,the future of forest will be set.Therefore the technology which could accurately describe the forest information is urgently needed by forest managers. Virtual forest environment is a new research area which is the combination of virtual reality and forest information.It is a new platform which could construct the complex forest objects and analyze complex forest growth law.This paper is a subset of "Virtual Taihu Lake Basin "project which is developed for Suzhou management department.This virtual forest model is constructed and realized based on the law of vegetation growth in Taihu Lake basin.Virtual plants model,virtual plants simulator,environment simulator,environment model and environment factors(such as sun and temperature) are included in this model.Modeling and Realization are separated to facilitate the future expansion and transplantation of system.With the development of virtual natural scenery,a lot of virtual forest models have been reported.However,most of them are based on the statistical data to portray the objects at a certain time.Enlightened by Darwin's evolution theory,this paper use the idea of natural selection and evolution mechanism,focus on the species of plants and the process of evolution,and realize the simulation about the forest evolution to describe the competition relationship among plants in virtual forest.Past,present and future of the virtual forest is simulated in some degree.L system based on binary tree is put forward to construct the virtual plants model.This method simplifies the process of context search and improves the efficiency of time and space in the process of growth simulation and dynamic simulation of environment impact. It is very important for virtual forest simulation,and the efficiency of system is improved.
