With the rapid development of economy and information technologies, the world's mainstream news mediums have set up their own online news sites. The Internet has become a major source of news in today's world. Online news becomes "the fourth news medium" which is different from the traditional printed news in many aspects. English online news has its own distinctive features; it is a good way for English learners to read online news reports to enrich their language and culture knowledge of the target language and to keep up with the latest development of the language. The study of the style of English online news reporting has become necessary.About eighty online news reports of the Chang'e-l(a man-made lunar probing satellite) from the official websites of China Daily and Reuters have been collected. With the help of computer program and statistical methods, the stylistic features of the online news corpus are compared on four levels: graphological level, lexical level, syntactical level and semantic level.The practical significance of this study is to compare the stylistic similarities and differences between the English online news reports in Chinese Website and British one. Some reading skills of online English news, in accordance with its stylistic features, are provided for English learners, and therefore English learners might be more efficient in their learning and English acquisition. Some suggestions are given on the application of online English news to English teaching as well. Besides, the study will contribute more or less to extend the field of online journalistic English stylistic analysis which might enrich the relevant theoretical studies.
