It is the objective of this thesis to investigate the MAC protocols with high energy efficiency. In wireless sensor networks, the number of sensor nodes is huge, and the resource is very limited for a single node. One of the most important tasks of MAC protocol in wireless sensor network is to reduce the energy consumption in the network. The author analyzes some MAC protocols, assimilates good ideas from S-MAC, an improved energy-efficient MAC, named SDS-MAC is introduced.To improve the energy efficiency of boundary nodes, a scheme called Synchronized Sensor MAC (SDS-MAC) is presented, according to establishment of the spanning tree, calculation of the number of nodes in clusters, clusters incorporation, but not introduce any new packet in the scheme, the connectivity of the networks will be improved.Based on the simulation results of SDS-MAC, S-MAC, and 802.11 with the help of NS2, it is shown that the SDS-MAC protocol has advantage in energy-saving, compared with S-MAC and 802.11. |
