| Raymond Williams is one of the most influential western cultural Marxist in Britrain, whose thoughts found direction of British cultural studies and communication theory. The object of this paper is cultural concept and communication thoughts which were posed by a famous theorist called Raymond Williams. This paper employs the text studies, attempting to make some values on his thonghts, based on introduction and arrangement of three parts: the theoretical foundation of communication thonghts, connotation of communication thonghts, the contribution to breaking view of traditional communication studies and the reference to Chinese communication studies.In terms of ideological root, Raymond Williams has covered the most extensive field of different discipings, following the criticism awareness of European traditional criticism, overthrowed F.R.Leavi's tradition and presented a rather objective and reasonable valuation on the working classes and mass culture which are totally different form unsatisfactive view by F.R.Leavi's means. Meanwhile his thoughts is also originated form Marxism, which makes him to study culture and communication under whole social background.From the content, in order to reveal what impacts development of communication, William's thoughts views relations among communication and culture,community and technology as its object and discusses these relations form a new perspective. He always constructs ideal communication system on the basis of the Cultural community and his unique mind on technology is brilliant.From the effect, William advises putting communication under cultural perspective and social background which undoubtedly offer a new piece of study area different form American communication rooted in the mainstream of empirical research and pessimistic view on communication of Frankfurt School, especially technology of communication and mass culture. For our communication studies, William's thoughts, either its theory or practice has important referent. |
