Short Message Service (SMS) is contributing to new vitality for the GSM mobile communications networks based-on voice services because of its combination with Internet technology as well as the emergence and applications of GSM modem. An information service gateway is established between the GSM network and the computer Internet, which will implement wireless applications.The subject of this research is"mobile campus network", which is a Mobile Network System at Campus (MNSC) based-on SMS, gateway is the most important. This paper introduces the procedure of analysis, design and implementation of MNSC with an academic querying system as an example. The gateway which communicates with the gateway system via GSM Modem is composed of communication interface module, processing module and data source interface module. The gateway receives the coded queries from users and sends packed results back. Mobile phone users sent a query code request, the results of inquiries by the code after the package sent to mobile phone users, phone-side software package on the decoded data to GUI software interface for users to browse. The J2ME application in client interprets the result message which will be in the form of text to the user.
