The purpose of this paper is to establish a tree measurement system to achieve the automatic and precise management of forest resources survey,so as to enhance the traditional survey methods and techniques of forest resources survey.The method of extracting the trunk by Gray-Level Co-occurrence matrix method has been proposed in this paper,meanwhile,it contrasted with the effects of region growing algorithm based on seed point which was selected from the stem base and effects of template matching;then the information of diameter at breast height,diameter of main branch and branch height was figured out according to photogrammetry study.Experimental results show that the methods can effectively segment the trunk and the background,furthermore,it's more convenient to obtain the standing tree features automatically and accurately.The main innovations of this paper are:1.By digital camera calibration,integrated pixel pitch of camera is obtained and the application of photogrammetry is used in tree measurement.2.In accordance with the shape feature of trees,the method of region growing based on seed point which is selected from the stem base has been proposed.3.The method of texture feature extraction is applied in standing tree image segmentation,and have achieved the expected results.4.This paper proposes a method of least squares for the edge of the trunk,thus the trunk inclination can be achieved.
