In traditional composite plate production line, thickness of plates is usually measured by micrometer gauge, and rolling margin of composite plate is adjusted manually according to the comparison between the measured values and the standard values. With the ceaseless changing of online monitoring technologies and improvement of equipment manufacturing techniques, plate manufacturing systems are developing towards the direction of automation and integration, measurement and control by hand can not meet the requirements of modern production.This dissertation derived from the commission of a company. Under such situations, an online system of measuring the thickness of composite plate was designed and developed in this paper, which can achieve continuous on-line measurement and real-time control, with measuring the value of plate cross-section thickness and be able to identify nonconforming products automatically. First of all, according to the practical situation of the plate production line, a work flow was designed for the whole system, and a contact-style measurement method was applied. Furthermore, after analysis of various possibilities of influencing the measurement results, a special"clip-shaped"differential measurement structure was designed.Secondly, measurement methods such as the knife-edge bearer and bearing transmission; rolling and sliding measuring head were separately designed and developed. After comparative observation of different combinations, structure of a sliding measuring head with knife-edgebearer was eventually chosen, with which the dynamic characteristics of the whole system were analyzed and researched. Thirdly, guide roller, automatic marking mechanism, dust-proof and protection structure in this system had been separately designed and developed. Finally, the whole system was tested and debugged.This system achieves online detection and automatic control, and convenient to archive, manage, and inquiry data, which solves the problems in online detection production line of composite plates, and can be applied to the others online detection and control of a variety of composite plate production line.
