In traditional Internet, IP address overloads both identity information and location information. This leads to several problems being more and more serious, such as routing scalability, mobility, security. It also limits the development of Internet. To solve this, the idea of separating identifier and locator is proposed and has become a hot research point. Through in-depth study, it is increasingly important and urgent that study on design, architecture and deployment of the mapping information resolution mechanism between identifier and locator. This thesis relies on the project of Universal Trustworthy Network and Pervasive Services, which is a National 973 Basic Research Program. Universal Network applies the mechanism of separating and mapping between identifier and locator, and adopts a hierarchical, distributed database system to provide service of storing and resolving mapping information. Other network entities can get identifier/locator information from the database fast and accurately. This thesis analyses the mechanism of mapping information resolution in Universal Network, then introduces the problem of storing and resolving information between Access Identifier (AID) and Home Region. This thesis presents two solutions for storing and resolving home-region information, and makes analysis and comparison. To meet characters and demands of the resolution database system, the scheme of centralized storage and resolution is selected for design and implementation in detail. The design includes processes of distribution, storage, update, and resolution of home-region information. Its main characters are as follows: 1. AIDs are divided or aggregated into blocks, thus can effectively reduce the amount of AID/Home Region information. 2. Each Identifier Mapping Server (IDMS) in a region maintains a database which provides service of storing and resolving home-region information, so as to reduce delay during resolution greatly. 3. IDMSs establish a session relationship to form an overlay network. Through the network, home-region information can be spread automatically and quickly as well as synchronized among all the databases. 4. During the update process, an incremental approach is taken to reduce messages. Besides, some measures are designed to avoid messages being repeatedly sent and to ensure them being correctly received.Furthermore, the thesis presents a model for implementing the system. Implementing method and working procedure of each module is emphatically specified. Finally, results from function test and performance test in the prototype network system prove this scheme is feasible and effective. This research work lays a good foundation for the future research and large-scale deployment of Universal Network. It is also valuable for settling the issue of mapping and resolution in identifier/locator separation network.
