With the development of Microelectronics technology and Computer technology, the embedded system which is the hot spot of the research has been an important part of modern electronic design and computer field.The embedded system which is based on single-chip,ARM,DSP,FPGA has many advantages which consists of high-performance,low power consumption,low cost.So the embedded system has been widely used in the device miniaturization,intelligence,independent innovation etc.The embedded system has been used in.the national defense, industry,transportation,communication,energy and all the aspects of daily life.The embedded multimedia platform which is based on FPGA chip is researched in this thesis.The design idea and method for hardware and software of the entire system platform are described.The proposed solution is mentioned.In terms of hardware design,interrelated contents of the EP2C8 chip are introduced which consists of the choice of each interface module,the design of the circuits and the design process of SOPC.In terms of software,firstly, the embedded operating system is studied.Secondly,the development of system environment is introduced,uCLinux kernel is custom-tailored and the hardware platform is ported.Finally,Linux driver software and GUI is designed.This system platform described in the thesis can be used for embedde multimedia platform in the secondary developing.The function can be easily extended which is a good starting for the development of the audio and video. The developing prospect of system platform is wide.
