Computer hardware resources can be connected on the Internet; web pages can be linked on the World Wide Web. And now, the Grid provides a network infrastructure that enables the geographically distributed computers to be integrated into a virtual supercomputer via the computer networks. We can implement on sharing all grid resources, including computing, storage, data, information, knowledge, and software resources on the Grid. With the emergence of the concept of Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA), Grid Computing technology originally motivated and supported from sciences and engineering requiring highly computing for sharing geographically distributed computing resources is extended to business application fields whose main characteristic for distributed systems integration. OGSA gives focus on grid services. All grid resources in OGSA are abstracted into grid services, and uses grid services as uniform software entries to provide sharing interfaces, which can shield the heterogeneity of grid resources effectively. On the Grid Computing environment, geospatial information users can not only gain distributed services of geodata and geoprocessing, but also rent computing resources, storage resources, etc. The direct effect is from GIS application to Spatial Information Grid (SIG).SIG decomposes GIS functions according to given standards into functionality components, and then encapsulates them into various geospatial grid services with geoprocessing functions, the technology of Discovering and registration of web services is one of the most important technologies. This article is about the technology of monitoring and discovering of the Spatial Information Grid services. The main content can be summarized as following:(1) Describing the related concepts, features of the Spatial Information Grid; Analyzing and describing the Service Framework. of SIG.(2) Taking the GT4 Monitoring and Discovering System as an example of register center of Spatial Information Grid. Analyzing and studying its principle.(3) Using Introduce to create a Spatial Grid Service and then developing the operation of the service on the Eclipse platform. Publish the service into the Globus default container in the Windows operation system. (4) Deploy the Spatial Information Grid monitoring and discovering system. Deploy the developed spatial information grid service to the container of register center of Spatial Information Grid and then request the properties and the status of the service. The results prove that using the GT4 Monitoring and Discovering system to develop the register center of Spatial Information Grid is feasible.
