With the development of computer graphics,real-time rendering-based VR technology has been applied in more and more fields.Adding terrains with sense of reality into virtual scene can greatly improve the sense of immersion.LOD is the key technology in large-scale terrain rendering.Using LOD technology,VR system can greatly reduce the number of polygons produced in real-time rendering procedure.This paper firstly do research and improvement onthe CPU-based quadtree LOD algorithm,then study and extend Geometry Clipmap algorithm,the most representative algorithm of GPU friendly algorithm.The main contents are as follows:(1)Analyze the basic idea of the LOD algorithm and its advantages and disadvantages.(2)Study the commonly used data structure in real-time terrain rendering and the idea of its corresponding LOD algorithm.(3)Do further research on traditional quadtree LOD algorithm,optimize and improve: its data structure,algorithm flow and crack repair algorithm,and upgrade the algorithm performance.(4)Do further research on Geometry Clipmap algorithm,add new data scheduling sub-module into it,and improve its data structure and rendering methods,making it be the complete solution of real-time large-scale terrain rendering.Finally,do experimental design work based on the methods and techniques presented by this paper.Analysis,comparison of experimental result proved the rationality and effectiveness of this algorithm,and put forward the main direction for further work.
