Recently, with the rapid development of wireless communication system, the mobile handset antenna should have good electronic characteristic and less affected by the nearby environment. So the antenna should be integrated designed.The internal antenna has become the mainstream in mobile phone antenna design. And planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) is one kind of internal antennas most widely used. The design of ideal PIFA antenna has been studied firstly in this paper. Then integrated designed of antenna was researched particularly base on the proposed integrated mobile phone model. At last the antenna match network also has been studied. All of the design processes of antennas mentioned have been presented. Antenna samples of all designs have been made and measured.The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, the mobile antenna design method in the ideal condition is discussed, which is the basic contend of PIFA. In this part, two theoretical PIFA models have been introduced. By analyzing the key parameters of PIFA, two antennas work at GPS and Bluetooth (BT) band were attained. These dual-band PIFA antennas have been simulated by software and the antenna samples are also obtained. A triple-band antenna which works at GSM900/DCS1800/PCS1900 is obtained through increasing the DCS band characteristics of the dual-band PIFA designed above. In the second part, the dual-band antenna is considered under the complex situation. By discussing the real work situation of one common bar phone antenna, an integrated antenna design simulating model has been built. The effect of speaker, battery and handset case on the performance of the antenna has been investigated. A GSM900/DCS1800 dual-band PIFA antenna applied in real situation has been attained by modifying the design of antenna. The effect of user's hand on antenna has also been studied. The last part, the design of antenna match network is studied, which is an important content of antenna design. A viable match network design flow has been introduced and the PI-style match network has been obtained. The results show that the integrated PIFA antenna design is necessary and feasible.This study provides a useful reference for the integrated design of internal mobile phone antenna.
