With the development of computer networks, the complexity is increasing and the heterogeneity of networks has become increasingly serious. Different network management systems are often made of element equipments by different manufacturers, and even different operating systems and different programming languages, making them all do their own jobs and be separated. This may cause problems like network protocols can not be compatible, management information can not be exchanged, management resources can not be shared, and user operating interface is diverse. In this circumstance, how to integrate the current independent network management systems in all together, how to achieve their interconnection, intercommunication and interoperability, and how to form a distributed full-featured integrated network management systems, becomes an urgent problem. The Internet Communications Engine is a new object-oriented middleware platform developed by the experts of the distributed network management in the Zero C, Inc. Its special architecture provides many advantages for developers: the object-oriented semantic, supporting the synchronous and asynchronous delivering mode, multiple interfaces and multiple threads, the irrelevance among the equipments, languages and operational systems, the transparent position of clients and severs, the advanced security and the inner unvarying mechanism, the open code sources and so on. These technical advantages make the ICE middleware much more suitable to achieve the application of the distributed management system.A new distributed networks management model on the basis of the ICE middleware is presented in this article to fulfill the development of the networks. Its primary feature is providing a suit of the standard protocols and interfaces on the basis of Ice's extensible interface sub-system module, which makes the new functional modules or the third party's networks management systems easier to integrate into the previous system. This feature also makes the extensibility and the diversity of the system greatly enhanced. With the in-depth research of the Ice's architecture and the core, a distributed networks management system is presented, which makes the mutual communication between the systems basing on the diverse transmission modes implemented. There are two solutions issued in this article, including modifying the Ice's source codes and using the Ice's in-plugs to integrate by API, which are designed to implement the mutual communication between the Ice and other communication products of the different mechanisms. Using the Ice's special in-plugs mechanism is the better one in 2 solutions. Because any specific transmission protocols can be loaded easily by using the Ice's in-plugs mechanism, and this solution extends the Ice's transport layer so as to make the broader mutual communications possible. In order to validate the in-plugs solution's feasibility, the serial interface protocol is chosen as the transmission mechanism given to experimenting. After the practical communication experiments, this solution is proved practicable. In the end of the paper, some views about how to advance the being are presented.
