The infrared camera is applied widely in industry production and daily life. In video monitoring field, the use of infrared camera usually in the way of network. The network video monitoring system has the advantages of smaller volume, better real time and no depending on lights nature than traditional video monitoring, have fine and stability and developing prospect.On the basis of researching current video monitoring system, this article designs an embedded network video monitoring system based on MPEG4. The system is composed of two parts. One is the embedded network server, and the other is the client. The two subsystems transmit information and exchange data by network.The article illuminates the progress and correlative technology of the system, including technology of embedded system, the digitization and coding of video, network transmission, searches and discusses the overall structure of embedded video monitoring system, including the hardware and software of both subsystems.On the design of hardware platform, this system uses the video collection module +video coding module+embedded host control module architecture. The collection function are fulfilled by DH-IR08 camera which has distinguished video quality, the video coding module chooses IME6400 which has a great real-time process ability. The design chooses S3C2410 as its main control module, as it has a remarkable control capacity and network ability. Under the control of S3C2410, these modules can make a corporate effort to complete the hardware platform.On the design of software, first is to build developing environment, second, drives the infrared camera based on V4L standard third, in accordance with the feature of MPEG4, packs the MPEG4 to FTP by object unit, and sends to the client form sever, receives the feedback message. At last, build software architecture of saving and playing monitoring video on Windows platform.This system works out the overall design of an embedded network video monitoring system on both hardware and software ground, and realizes the critical technique. At last, in the article, puts forward some problems which should be discussed deeply and suggestions for the future research.
