With the development of domestic express industry and the entry of foreign express delivery companies, the competition for market share between express delivery companies will be fierce. Based on analyzing the characteristics of express industry, this thesis researches the application of GIS and data mining technology in the express delivery business system, aimed to enhance express companies' efficiency and market competitiveness.The thesis introduces the GIS, data mining technology and its application status, puts forward a vehicle scheduling and route optimizing proposal, which to improve the express company's efficiency and to reduce transportation costs. At the same time, for the express delivery business has accumulated a large amount of data, data mining technology is used to help businesses explore the potential market demand information, and thus to make or adjust business decisions.The works has the following 4 points:1) The business of receiving and sending is analyzed, otherwise a vehicle scheduling and route optimization mathematical model and related principles is studied. The algorithms about vehicle routing problem are discussed in the thesis, focused on the ant algorithm.2) The solution to vehicle routing problem in the environment of GIS is discussed to meet the practical needs of delivery system.3) The ant algorithm is used to realize the function of express delivery route optimization and route displaying on the map.4) The data mining and data warehouse technology is studied. The data warehouse in express delivery business system is analyzed and designed. With the help of experimental data, the function of multi-dimensional data analysis and potential customer information mining is realized.
