| Discourse Analysis, as a kind of methodology, develops from Language Studies; and combines with other subjects such as Sociology and Psychology. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), as a major branch of Discourse Analysis, can be used in Media Criticism. Generally speaking, Critical Discourse Analysis is a kind of methodology that employs some Language Study methods as etymology and grammar analysis, and integrates with macro social practice studies. It aims to analysis the hidden Ideology, and how the discourses establish the Ideology.This article aims to analysis the China's image in the main media of the USA, probe how the media establish the image, and how they permeate the Ideology into the texts via the methods of Critical Discourse Analysis. So this article selects the Editorials of The New York Times about Beijing Olympics as samples, using CDA to do case studies. Via this case study, this article tries to make some attribution in employing the methodology of CDA in Media Criticism.This article includes two main parts. The first part introduced some theories of Discourse Analysis and CDA, especially the one of Norman Fairclough and Van Dijk. What's more, this article tries to combine the methods of the two scholars together, and employs them in the case study. The second part is the case study, which analysis the texts, the intertextuality, and the ideology. |
