In the late 1990s, a large number of high standard of reality TV such as Loft Story and Survivor appeared on the TV screen, Its popularity prompted other various types of TV programs to borrow the elements of these reality TV, which led to a trend of reality TV .During the first stage(before the year 2000),Chinese still had no access to such reality shows, while a number of forward-looking TV producers learned from abroad the elements of reality TV programs and successfully put them into practice. The second stage(from 2000 to 2005)witnessed the increasing popularity of such shows after various trials of pure imitation and the successful integration with local favor. But soon there came more and more criticisms and these shows also met moral boycott from the audience due to personal attacks on players brought by the overly fierce competition among the reality TV.From the September of 2006, a brand-new reality show called Bian Xing Ji produced by Hunan TV station came into life, which meant the reality show in China was entering the third stage. Bian Xing Ji claims a strong sense of social responsibility with a promise not to use the exposure of the dark side in human nature as a gag of the program. Though it didn't bring up the same imitation effect as the former Super Girl, it indeed received good social response after being broadcast. This paper conducts a case study of Bian Xing Ji and analyzes by texts its narrative strategies mainly using the relevant principles of TV sociology in the hope of providing reference for future developments of new types of reality shows in China.
