The Change Of News Media's Function And The Development Of Society

With the profound changes in China's political, economic, and social areas during this period, the press area also transform a lot during the last thirty years. By making use of the media function theory studied by Chinese and foreign scholars, we analyzed the content of the top ten domestic news selected by "banyuetan" magazine through the past 30 years and get the following conclusion: The central mission of china's media is the "mouthpiece" of the party and the government; News media lay stress on their social response; News media pay more attention to the nature of news—to provide information; Their function changed from propaganda- centered mode to "news-centered" journalistic mode. News media's supervision function has become more obvious. News media is gradually changed from media-based to the audience-based; News media always plays a role in keeping good relationship with Hong Kong, Macao, and especially cross-strait relationship.the article seeks the reason of the change of media function after China's reform and opening up. We expound from 3 angles: social background, the change of media attribute and the operation mode of media and the competition between domestic and international media. Meanwhile, we put forward an equilateral tetrahedron model of China's news media. With this model, we analyze how to play a role in building a harmonious society through making use of media's function correctly.
