The distribution of the fragmentation of the blasting lumps forms an important basis for judging the effectiveness of the blasting. To quantitatively describe the rock fragmentation size and the distribution of the blasting lumps accurately and reliably can verify and improve the technological processing and parameter, and is the important technical foundation of undertaking the blasting optimization research as well.Usually, the methods of fragmentation analysis are"sieving","statistics of the rate of big lumps"and etc. They can evaluate the distribution of the blasting lumps quantitatively to a certain extent. But they all have some limitations more or less. And the techniques for rock fragmentation distribution based on image processing can make up the defect of the methods mentioned above.Based on the summarization of the methods and theories of rock fragmentation distribution, this paper researches deeply the dominating techniques of image processing, and builds up a series of softwares of image processing.These softwares provide abundant functions and practical tools; they can do binarization, smoothing and de-noising to process rock image, they use several edge detection techniques to extract rock edge, and they use region filling and threshold value dividing techniques in image segmentation. In addition, the author builds a fragmentation-analysis system for discrete rocks, which can calculate area and circumference of rocks in the image. This has built a solid foundation for developing rock fragmentation auto-analysis system. At last, the softwares are tested and the effectiveness of the image processing is analyzed. The result is satisfactory but some flaws are also discovered.The softwares can meet the requirements of image processing and analyzing of rock fragmentation size, partially implement the automation of image processing and analyzing, and would improve the efficiency of the analysis of rock fragmentation of blasting lumps obviously. The success of building fragmentation-analysis system for discrete rocks will accelerate the research of rock fragmentation auto-analysis system. This designment will promote the application of the techniques for rock fragmentation distribution based on image processing in rock mass blasting.
