With the development of Internet, information and multi-media technology, network applications become more and more rich. The streaming media system has become research hot topic. As the research on wireless network developed and the embedded devices were widely applied, new research direction emerged in streaming media applications. Therefore, this paper proposed a design for streaming media system in cabled and wireless environment. This design is believed to offer new research approaches concerning streaming media technology.This paper designed the architecture of multi-user system which can work well concurrently in both cabled and wireless environment. For the entire system, this paper delivered detailed statements on system model, work flow, technique support of system key function modules and design details. In this system, system real-time control is implemented based on the research on the principle of RTSP protocol. That system control consists of session control between server and client, management of streaming channels and the VCR-like function. Meanwhile, three levels including interactive synchronization among objects and synchronization in and between streams are given in the system. In addition, this paper also achieved the synchronization of advertising spots based on the commercial background of streaming media system. Finally, client part in cabled environment is ported to embedded system and thus this paper completely realized the streaming media application in wireless environment.With the implementation of system design, this paper implemented the streaming media application in both cabled and wireless environment. The experiment verified that the real-time control solution proposed in paper is able to achieve the goal of control effectively and the design of synchronization control can also accomplish the mission of synchronization in and between streams very well. That ensured the media played smoothly. What's more, the client which is ported to embedded system functions well in accordance with the expectations. The experimental results proved that the system design is effective and reasonable which laid a solid foundation for the on-going improvements on perfect system design.
