As people pay more attention to driveability, economy and exhaust emissions ofthe motorcycle, electronic control technology of engine has become more complex.Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is one of the most important sensors in the electroniccontrol system of engine, and it is the main signal source of spark advance control, idle control, speeding up control of the start, and so on.The contact variable resistors are used in the traditional throttle position sensorof motorcycle, however, which is vulnerable to high temperature, vibration and theimpact of wear or pollution, and the dust and other pollutants would remain in throttlebody while working for some time because of the sensor being installed on the outsideand the poor working environment, all of which would affect stability and controleffectiveness of the entire electronic control system. This paper mainly research on a linear Hall effect sensor and install it inelectronic control system of the motorcycle. It mainly include the design of themagnetic circuit and external circuit of Hall effect sensor; choosing magneticmaterials with high properties and reasonable prices; doing magnetic circuitsimulation on the various design with FEMM that is two-dimensional finite elementanalysis software and ANSYS that is finite element software; detecting the magneticflux and the linear output voltage signal with 3D experimental device, and bychanging parameters such as the size of magnets, distance between magnet and sensorto certify the specific effects of the various parameters; improving the mechanicalstructure of the throttle according to the feasible program. The Hall effect sensor willbe installed on the throttle, and entire vehicle testing is carried out.The test result is that the Hall output voltage ranges from 0.5 V to 3.7V, andlinearity error ranges from -1.9 % to 0.6%, when distance between the bar magnet andHall-effect sensor is 11 mm. Although this study on the Hall effect sensor linearityerror is not so perfect, it demonstrates the design of program is feasible. At the sametime, in view of solid structure, small size, less weight, non-contact, long life, easyinstallation, shock-resistant, pollution-resistant, convenient debugging, widetemperature range, and providing a consistent performance in various circumstancesof the Hall-effect sensor, the research on the TPS based on Hall effect is veryimportant.
