Shot Noise is current fluctuation induced by carrier discreteness. Many information about the electron transportation can be extracted from the time series of shot noise. In recent years, the development of nanoscopic technology and mesoscopic physics makes the shot noise measurement possible. The measurement and analysis of shot noise is regarded as an effective method to investigate the nano-structure in experimental and theoretical, and noise detection method was arousesd attention due to its non-destruction and high sensitivity.Theoretical studies showed that the Fano factor, higher-order cumulants as well as instantaneous frequency are sensitive characterization parameters of shot noise. In order to extract these characterization parameters from shot noise, a testing program which can be used to measurement the time series of shot noise was proposed, after the analysis of the limits in the entire hardware testing program available. A application software which can be used to extract characterization parameters of shot noise was programmed and verified with Matlab6.5 platform. This program can be used to the the analysis of shot noise, such as the estimation of Fano factor, the calculation of higher-order cumulants and the extraction of instantaneous frequency. By using these extracted characterization parameters, the time series of simulation shot noise with different characterization parameters was compared and analyzed, including shot noise with Poisson distribution, shot noise with bimodal distribution and shot noise with non-stationary. The results were analyzed and discussed. The conclusions are useful to researchers in this field.
