In the age of pervasive computing with the rapid development of the present electronic technology and network technology, the embedded system has already penetrated into all fields, such as scientific research, engineering design, military technology, commerce culture art and people's daily life. At the same time, because PDA it is exquisite, the function is formidable, day by day receives people's favor. Therefore, the great significance should be put on the research of embedded Linux PDA system.The main research and development of this task is the PDA's hardware and software platform based on ARM and Linux. The CPU of its core module is S3C2410X embedded processor based on ARM920T core, around it has 64M SDRAM and 64M NAND Flash. The platform integrates some devices, such as the interface between human-machine (LCD and Touchpad), embedded GPS module. And it provides some extended interface such as USB Host, SD Card. The features of the platform are advanced, logical and extendable. It offers a dependable platform and an useful application to develop others embedded system.On this hardware platform, we deeply discussed and resolved the task and difficult problem be confronted with the course of Linux and embedded GUI porting. The paper firstly studies the development and implementation of the Bootloader (the Linux start-up guide code). Secondly, gives out the start-up analysis of the Linux and the course of porting the Linux 2.4 kernel and the YAFFS filesystem to the platform. And then, based on deeply graspes Linux device driver model, implementes the drivers such as LCD Framebuffer, Touchpad, USB Host. Finally, implementes the porting of the Qt/E GUI Through porting of the Linux and the Qt/E GUI, the platform has been supported by graphics OS, so we can develop others PDA applications on this platform easily.Based on the platform, we give out a programme capable of demonstating map as well as enlarging and minifying them. It provides a helpful application to integrated apply the source of the platform.
