In recent years, the use of burst mode data transmission is increasing in digital communication systems.These systems use point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections over optical, wireless, and coaxial media. Designers in worldwide are working on local-access approaches using time-division multiple-access (TDMA) technology. Some examples include using passive optical network (PON) to realize fiber to the home, fiber to the curb.With optical fiber communication developed significantly, all kinds of technologies are proposed to improve the performance of the network.In optical fiber access networks, PON is seen as the most effective technology to eliminate the bandwidth bottleneck in the last mile. PON system should face the problem of reciving optical burst mode signal. Camparing with continuous signal, burst mode signal has more differences, so traditional receiver cannot deal with it properly. With the increasing development of optical fiber communication, the optical fiber testing equipment is improving rapidly. General optical power meter only is used to test contiuous signal, but some special technologies must be used in the optical burst mode receive and test technologies.First, the technology of optical burst mode receiver is studied, existing schemes are summed up and receiver topology base on feed-forward is selected. For the disadvantages of existing optical burst mode receiver, the design is improved greatly. The design of optical burst mode receiver is accomplished, including the design of the adaptive trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), limiting amplifier (LA). The circuit are simulated at bit rates up to 1.25 Gb/s. The performance of the receiver has been improved greatly, and the receiver sensitivity is -28.1dBm, dynamic range is 27.6dB,which are all improved greatly.Then, a DSP chip based high-speed data acquisition system is discussed at 155 Mb/s. According to the traits of burst optical signal in the PON system, this system including analog signal receiver and digital signal processing.The burst signal receiver composed by trans-impedance amplifier AD8015, limiting amplifier MAX3761 and circuit of reset pulse, accomplished receiving and amplifying of burst signal. The burst signal processing module composed by high-speeding A/D converter AD9481 and DSP chip TMS320C6201 can accomplish converting burst signal from analog to digital and detecting transmitter burst signal average power in the active give out light duration.
