Nowadays, Electronic countermeasures are becoming increasingly drastic. Owing to its advantages: good anti-hiding characteristic, anti-jamming capability and low probability of intercept property, phase-coded radar is becoming more popular and receiving more attention in the field of research. However, phase-coded radar has the disadvantages of higher range sidelobe and sensitivity to Doppler shifts. In this paper, the characteristics of phase-coded signal are firstly discussed, which include the finding of the origin of the sidelobe, the relationship between Doppler shifts and the loss of gain during the pulse compression, as well as the introduction of the tolerance of Doppler shifts. Secondly, the method of using iteratively reweighed least-square mismatched filter design for sidelobe reduction is described and the favorable experimental results are also given. Thirdly, three methods to eliminate the impact of Doppler shifts are discussed, including the method based on DMTD, the method found on two crossed channels, and the last one based upon several channels. Finally, DSP and its application in the pulse compression grounded on several channels. are presented.
