Log map is an integrated graphic presentation of kinds of well log data. Well log data is of great value to production and research in petroleum exploration. The purpose of this paper is to save and restore old paper log maps, resolve the problem of lag in log data utilization, fill the requirements of comprehensive geological analysis and study, and of data resource sharing. It is of great significance to know in time dynamic information of oil field production and management, improve abilities of decision-making, and speed up oilfield informatization.Oriented to a practical project, this paper carries out requirement analysis and study to the application of log map visualization in the field of petroleum. According to the plot regulations of log map of China National Petroleum Corporation, the paper studies the problem of log data visualization from the point of view of the software architecture, reuse, and object-oriented technology. From the three aspects of system framework, graphics application technology, and the specific applications based on the framework, and using object-oriented technology and design patterns, this paper puts forward a design idea of "Map = Template + Data" and green software. The Graphics Layer Component Library is designed and implemented, which can be reused flexibility. The Log Map Graphics System is implemented based on the library, and a log map visualization system is constructed by the combination of this system. The system framework design is will divided into layers, coupling between components is low, and it is easy to integrate for application and better to fit for requirements change. Graphics rendering from log data is fast and automatic, log map is sharable, and the capability of resource reuse is high. So far, it has been applied to many projects in oilfields, and gained good payoff.
