Through decade's efforts of domestic and overseas researchers, model updating technique has a great development. Up to now, relevant model updating module has been developed in some experimental modal analysis software. However, model updating technique is not popularly used in engineering practice because of its weak function of FEM analysis. So, two model updating modules are developed in the platform of Msc.Patran software based on the sensitivity method and the simulated annealing method.First, the FEM model updating technique based on sensitivity method and the global optimal algorithm of FEM model updating based on simulated annealing method are deduced in detail. Second, in virtue of the redevelopment platform of Msc.Patran software, two model updating modules are developed based on sensitivity and simulated annealing with PCL language. The user-software alternant interface is performed and added in the Msc.Patran platform as a new menu. Using the powerful function of FEM analysis of MSC software, the two model updating modules can be sued to complete the task of model updating for the complex engineering structures. Third, results of numerical examples and the application in an engineering structure validate the feasibility and correctness of the proposed two model updating modules, and indicate the feasibility of application in the complex engineering structures in the future.
