The use and configuration of switch has become an important research subject for professionals in communications industry, in the light of recent development of modern communications technology and opening of communications market. Switch engineering is the underpinning technology of computer network. All theories must be put into practice, so this paper begins with introduction of switch and expounds the configuration steps, configuration commands and diagnosis commands and methods of switch equipment, through the detailed description of fundamental commands of switch, malfunction technology and the cases of campus network solution design, then explains the advanced configuration and fundamental use of the switch in details.Switch is network equipment that works at layer 2 of OSI, bases on MAC identification and is able to pack and transmit data packets. Firstly, the fundamental commands of network switch and cases are briefed on the level of basic operation, so as to make maintenance staffs initially exposed to configuration of switch have more sensible understanding. Next, commands usage and meanings of Huawei Switch are introduced from the perspective of network application realization, by combing more complex commands with the basic configuration illustrated in last part. Then the topology design and application of the operator's convergence nodes are explored.Part I introduces basic operations of the switch based on some fundamental commands by using examples. The command starts with basic port configuration, including password configuration command, terminal overtime setting, start of message synchronization setting, setting of console port velocity, setting command of switch name, basic configuration of HGMP etc, which enables us to have a basic understanding of the maintenance commands of switch.Part II lists a typical case of network switch malfunction, including issues related to use of transmission commands by the switch, or issues occurring after use in light of lacking understanding, which are solved by detailed topological structure, problem solving processes, step-wise treatment of problem removal, while the latter begins with the specific problems from operations under switch and positions the problems of the switch step by step. The process of malfunction analysis here and the later treatment operations after identifying the problems will be significant for better mastering of basic commands of the switch in practice.Part III introduces a typical case of network design with a specific enterprise network solution made from the perspectives of network design, planning of IP address, VLAN planning and configuration planning of switch etc. Firstly, a full topological structure design is made for network switch according to real situation, then specific planning of IP address and VLAN is finished based on the netting status and finally different switches are allocated with specific data on the foundation of equipments in network topology. In addition, a series of detailed testing are arranged, in order to carry out relevant assessment on normal diagnosis of network after completion of the project. This part involves in simple design of specific use configuration of the switch, which plays an important role in deeply understanding the use of commands and maintenance work of the switch.Part IV begins with a solution of practical application design for enterprise network, representing a complete network design step with its own focus. The first design is for one school's network reconstruction. Since the conditions of the school deteriorated, the original network could not adapt to current status, with the specific problem that flow of the switch can not satisfy the school's requirements, i.e. the school lacks effective control of the students'network usage and could not charge reasonably for the online time etc. Under such circumstances, the school's network needs to be reconstructed, the switch and charging system being upgraded, to solve the practical problems. The second case is about a design solution for a mining bureau facing the changes of network structure and increase of user-end equipments. The data are adjusted corresponding to the real situations. Moreover, during the design, there appeared some problems of firewall connection, which were solved by integrating theories with practice. The third case is about building a comparatively reasonable and comprehensive campus network. The network design is made by combining the school's requirements and the operator's effective management. The design is set to solve the bottleneck problem of clients'chain scarcity, division of IP and VLAN, selection of accreditation methods, as well as the authentication methods for student's dorms based on rational management, and it also makes some conclusions for the designed solution. The three cases design networks applied in schools and bureaus from different angles, the starting point all being to satisfy the requirements of the clients and make the operator realize effective and reasonable allocation and configuration, which will bring full use of the switch in application construction and play an important role in assisting the maintenance staffs learning switch and make it easy for them to apply switch into network.Part V focuses on the advanced configuration of switch with explanation of real configuration steps by linking theories with practice, which covers Broadcast MAX-ratio, address control technology of MAC, control technology of DHCP, configuration of IP address and time intervals, setting of commands and ACL, technology of login and accessing switch, mirroring technology etc. This will greatly benefit for understanding and rational use of the switch.Switch technology is very important in the network.
