With the rapid development of modern science technology and bing used in military field extensively, the combat units and command capabilities and integrated collaborative support capabilities have also been enhanced significantly. At the same time,it makes the weapons systems bigger, the weaponry of more complex, and the probability of failure increase as a result of it.So, a number of staff with comprehensive and high quality maintenance technology will be required as a powerful backing; however , because of the military establishment, staff mobility and so on, some staff have low technology of fault diagnosis and low level of holistic diathesis, and the technical means used in the maintenance of the current troop equipments are also behindhand. Therefore, by integrating the experience of maintenance engineers, computer technology, communications technology and the intelligent network fault diagnosis technology, we could work over and exploit a portable maintenance tools based on the fault diagnosis expert system to help the staff to find out the cause of the malfunction and provide maintenance recommendations quickly and correctly .It is practical significative to rapid repairing of weapons and equipments, and is useful to solve the puzzle of the experienced maintenance staff wastage, and the difficulty of training the eld and young staff.On the base of practice and research for years, we designed a separate structural design type Fault Diagnosis Expert System model based on relational database technology and applied for Pocket PC platform which had a good modularity and scalability. The system consists of knowledge base, inference engine, database, explained machine, knowledge access, man - machine interface and so on. The system using the exchanges mode of man - machine interface with the user, based on the fault clues which users provide and the experience rules data which are stored in the database, according to a certain logic reasoning strategy, guides users to conduct in-depth gradually equipment failure diagnosis, determine the cause of the malfunction and ultimate location, and make maintenance recommendations and solutions.The article plays an emphasis on building a knowledge base and the inference engine design started from preparing the basis of theoretical knowledge. The knowledge method, database modeling, knowledge base maintenance and management, data mining knowledge acquisition and the simplifier design of the inference engine are further discussed in this paper. In accordance with the hierarchical structure of object, expert system making use of the knowledge Representation based on production rules, uses relational database technology to realize knowledge base; for the problem of expert knowledge acquisition based on production rules, it proposes and discusses the method of supporting automatic knowledge acquisition using the correlation data mining technology based on Apriori algorithm to mine historical data. At the same time, the advantages of database technology is integrated, data query method being applied to the search of knowledge, matching guiding to reasoning, speeding up the search by filtering mechanism, so that the reasoning more simple and efficient. The experimental results show that: In this paper, the overall structure of the expert system designed is reasonable; some methods and techniques is novel; the planed functional requirements can reached and the desired objective of the work is achieved. So the system is of practical value.
