Workflow technology is the core technology which realizes enterprise process modeling, simulation analysis, optimization, management and integration, and ultimately automation. More and more enterprises are widely using workflow technology to improve operation efficiency. Workflow management system includes the following four sub-systems: workflow modeling tool, workflow engine, customer application and workflow management tool. Workflow modeling tool is in charge of the workflow process definition. Workflow engine includes the working mechanism and resource allocation methods. Customer application deals with the interaction between workflow participants and the system. Workflow management tool is responsible for establishment and update of organization, management and monitoring of process instances, and system performance analysis. After the introduction of workflow technology and stochastic Petri net technology, this article will focus on describing the management tool and the design and implement of system performance analysis.WfMS performance analysis is a very important aspect of research on workflow. Workflow designer and administrator can improve the performance of workflow efficiency based on performance parameters. Generally speaking, amount of resources in enterprises is limited, due to the existence of multiple concurrent instances of different workflow process models, resource constraints will have an impact on workflow performance, including response time, deadline. This paper designs and implements the management tool, and stochastic Petri net is applied to workflow performance analysis. We realize workflow modeling by XML process definition language, an XML parse algorithm will be adopted to resolve workflow process model into a stochastic workflow network. Performance equivalent simplification is according to the performance equivalent models of four basic models: sequent, parallel, choice and iterative, and then performance equivalent time worked out. This method provides very important information for normal and efficient operation of workflow system, making workflow engine can dispatch a more reasonable schedule according to the equivalent performance time of multi instances of workflow process models, ensuring the greatest possible number of instances to meet the deadline for time constraints. Finally, we introduce a system application, and use stochastic Petri nets for the performance analysis.
