RFID(Radio frequency identification)technology is un-touchable auto identification technology. To complete bi-directional communication, RFID system identifies object and acquires relative data by RF signal. An integrated RFID system is composed of top-level u-controller, reader, tag and antenna. Reader plays an important role in the system. It is responsible of communication with top-level u-controller and tag. This paper presents research and implementation of Base-Band Controller for RFID reader chip.Firstly, the paper analyses the architecture of finite state machine, fundamental theory of input/output interface and CRC algorithm in details. Then the reason for completing the design of base-band controller with FSM is explained, as well as the reason for completing input/output interface with asynchronous FIFO and CRC check with improved circuit compatible with conventional CRC algorithm. According to the result of theory analysis, the paper describes the implementation for the design of state controller circuit, asynchronous FIFO circuit and CRC check circuit. The design of PPM encoding circuit and Manchester bit decoding circuit based on ISO/IEC 15693 standard are described simply. To enlarge the function of the base-band controller, the design of Timer controller and interrupting controller are introduced briefly.Finally, the paper provides the simulation result under Modelsim 6.0 for some key-circuit described with Verilog HDL. It also provides the pro-type verification result by using packaged tag chip compatible with ISO/IEC 15693 standard under Xilinx FPGA platform. Both the results show that the design for base-band controller is reasonable to meet the early requirement.
