Mass distributed simulation applications need high computing performance and reliable system capability. However, current distributed modeling and simulation standard—High Level Architecture (HLA) can't satisfy the requirement for its lack of flexibility, scalability and resource reusability. We can solve the issues of HLA limitations by applying grid technology.Grid based Distributed Simulation Platform (GDSP) is the base infrastructure of Service-Oriented extensible Modeling/Simulation supporting environment architecture. The implementation of GDSP can promote reusability of current simulation supporting environment, better reuse existing simulation resources, and obtain more effective management to resource. GDSP provide simulations with fault and load balance capabilities. And it also enhances the flexibility and scalability of simulation by organizing the system in loosely coupled style.GDSP monitor system not only supports resource management in GDSP, but also ensures the simulation run smoothly and effectively. It's necessary for simulation analysis, test and evaluation. The simulation federation management mechanism is the key technology of the monitor system. It must have the characteristics of independence, comprehensiveness, accuracy, robustness, real-time and cooperative capability. Aim at these characteristics, a set of federation management mechanism is designed and implemented. Firstly, a federation management member based on the Management Object Model (MOM) is designed to provide comprehensive, accurate and general management functions. Secondly, a simulation data collection skill based on temporal database is proposed. Finally, an effective information transfer protocol is proposed to make multiple users manage the federation cooperatively.Through the system test, GDSP could well be applied to large scale distributed simulation system. The functions of its monitor system are fulfilled. And the characteristics of federation management mechanism are also implemented in the system. The monitor system can support the smooth run of GDSP.
