Multi-protocol Label Switching technology is a new technology which use label to guide traffic. It supports traffic Engineering, diffserv, optical switching, VPN, mobile IP well and it have broad application prospects. MPLS-based failure restoration is a hotspot to research. This paper introduces the theory of the MPLS-based networks failure restoration. It presents the comparison of the three methods of the failure detection and identification. It analyses the scope and model of the MPLS-based failure restoration, introduces the path's calculate and set technology .At last it presents the process of the failure restoration.MPLS network would be subjected to attacks, like camouflage, revise routing and so on. failure restoration not only need to restore flow but also need to ensure the security of packets. To solve this problem ,this paper presents a method to choose a recovery path which is safty. The method considers the safty of every node as a factor of choosing the recovery path. The experimental results show the algorithm improves the security of the recovery path.In the the existing failure restoration mechanism , Makam's scheme has less disorder and lower delay but more packet losses, Haskin's scheme has less packet losses but higer delay and it lead packet disorder. This paper presents a segment-based recovery scheme. It based on the Haskin's scheme and adopts the idea of segment. It divides the working path into several segments and sets buffers at every LSR. When failure happens, recovery scheme start at the enter LSR of the failure segment, and the failure is recovered in the segment. The use of buffer avoids the packet loss and disorder and the use of segment idea reduces the recovery time and the size of buffers. The experimental results show the scheme reduced the recovery time, packet disorder, buffer's size and delay efficiently.
