With the rapid development of information technology and network technology recently, facing massive data storage how to build a high-performance distributed network storage system has become an important topic in the current storage research and development.Research and analyse access interface of the distributed network storage system, and research two distributed network storage system access interface implement methods which are network block device and SCSI(Small Computer System Interface) block device. Then carry out a detailed comparative analysis, and educe that the maturity and efficiency of SCSI device dirver is more applicable to structure distributed storage system. By the study of network communication protocol in the distributed network storage system, come up with a lightweight communication protocol-VI(Virtual Interface). Then do the implement of kernel-level network driver contraposing to the storage system, and it can reduce the data-copy times and depress the software overhead to improve the performance of system effectively.Connect multi-storage nodes by VI network, designing and implementing the software of client node and storage node, then built a new-style high performance distributed network storage system-VISA(Virtual Interface Storage Architecture). Its characteristics are that it integrates the advantages of high performace transmission by VI and SAN(Storage Area Network), implementing a cheap and efficient storage area network. While use of active data block algorithm in client and multi-thread programming in storage node makes that the performance of the system has further improved.In terms of integrated reading and writing performance comparison tests of VISA and network storage system built by TCP/IP protocol, the result shows that VISA has many obvious advantages in performance.
