Serial communication is a common classic form of communication. With the emergence of network technologies and embedded technology, a lot of serial devices are required to access the network. However, the serial port is unavailable for the network, and it costs too much for single serial device to access the network independently. To solve this problem, in this thesis, the embedded systems are taken multiple serial expansions with universal asynchronous serial communication chips, and a full set of solution for multiple serial communications on embedded system is proposed. This solution has lower cost, strong scalability, and wide range of applications, which could make the serial devices access the Internet without PC.First of all, in this thesis, a designing program of the solution for the multiple serial communications on embedded system is proposed, in which the ARM7-based embedded processor S3C44B0X with network support and the TI universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) chip TL16C752B are taken as the hardware development platform. And the thesis elaborates on the solution for the system hardware design of the serial expansion, including the introduction to the functions of the microprocessor S3C44B0X, the design of all the modules, etc. Then, regarding the hardware platform as a base, the system software based on theμClinux embedded operating system is implemented, especially theμClinux serial device driver. And it also gives out the concrete steps for transplanting theμClinux embedded operation system and serial device driver to the ARM embedded processor. On this basis, the thesis also presents the specific application of the solution in the CDMA multi-channel wireless video transmission system, tests the PPP dial-up function of the expanded serial port, and realizes the connectivity and wireless communications of the system and the CDMA network. After debugging and testing the hardware and software of the solution for multiple serial communications on embedded system, the solution could completely meet the system requirements, and achieve the desired goal.
